ABOUT ROLFING

Rolfing® Structural Integration is hands-on work that changes the structure of your body, not just how it feels for the rest of the afternoon. Most hands-on work is designed to relax you. This is designed to solve problems caused by structural dysfunction.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS

Your body is held together by fascia — connective tissue that wraps every muscle and organ.

This holds your shape.

Over years, fascia adapts to how you sit, how you were hurt, how you brace. It gets organized around your patterns, and then it holds them in place.

Rolfing works through that tissue systematically, over ten sessions, so your structure has a chance to reorganize around body shapes that are more functional for your form and what you need to live your lifestyle without pain.

“This very body that we have, that’s sitting right here right now, with its aches and its pleasures, is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, fully alive.”

WHERE IT COMES FROM

Dr. Ida P. Rolf developed this work throughout the better part of the 20th century. She was a biochemist, and her question was structural: what happens if you stop treating a body as a collection of parts, and start treating gravity as the organizing force it actually is? She said gravity is the therapist. Everything in this work follows from that.

THE TEN SERIES

The Ten Series is the whole method. Ten sessions, each building on the last, working through the body in a deliberate order. It's not ten appointments for the same complaint, rather 10 steps in a series of restructuring a body that has adapted to dysfunction.

Session one opens the breath and begins with the hip and shoulder girdles. What comes after depends on what that opened.

Ideal pacing for the series is every week to every three weeks. Life happens, so you can space it out if needed, and people do. More than 3 weeks, and we lose the momentum we built. Closer together just means you feel it sooner.

COST

Initial Consultations are 30 minutes and are free.

Sessions are 75 minutes. $200 each.
