Frequently Asked Questions about Rolfing® Structural Integration
-
Rolfing can can be associated with many intense sensations.
While some intensity can be productive, I will always encourage you to be vocal about your feeling state and let me know how much intensity is too much or too little.
You might find yourself breathing more deeply through these moments on my table. The movements are not designed to hurt you, and pain isn't what makes structural integration work.
It may feel painful at times, but very unlikely would it be more than the pain than what brought you to my table in the first place.
-
I work on the heavier side of what my clients’ bodies need. In my experience, my style suits most people.
I use my body weight and gravity to produce pressure and sensation on your body. With that being said, I'm not a small person (my most time-consuming hobby is regular morning weightlifting and I'm 5'9. Your girl is dense!)
If you know need a feather-light touch, for instance if you have fibromyalgia, or another condition where barely-there is what works best for your body and your comfort, I'm likely not your practitioner.
-
No. Massage is wonderful and I'm not competing with it. Go get one, genuinely.
This is structural work. Different goal, different method, and it's organized as a series rather than a standalone hour, and each session informs the next one.
-
The Rolfing® 10 Series is ten sessions, and that’s the method.
You'll likely feel changes well before session ten. The whole arc is what makes them hold, and integrate to how your body functions.
-
Every one to three weeks is ideal. Beyond about three weeks the sessions stop building on each other as effectively.
You can take breaks. Natural pause points are after session three and after session seven.
-
Each Rolfing® structural integration session with me is about 75 minutes.
-
Your first step is free: a 30-minute phone consultation where we talk about what brings you in.
Sessions are $200 each and last 75 minutes. I am not currently offering packages or discounted rates. If that number feels out of reach for you personally, please read my access page and email me at me@alexandrarodriguezrolfing.com
Part of my offering is rooted in the knowledge that this work healing should be available to people who have been historically excluded from systems dedicated to holistic wellness. Let's chat.

I ask that you wear something you can move comfortably in, like yoga clothes or workout clothes. Regular underclothes work well also.
For part of the session I'll want to see how you walk (your gait) and how your body moves, so something close-fitting helps more than something loose.
And yes, “Rolfed” works! -
More than 48 hours ahead, no charge.
Inside 48 hours, I charge half the session fee. Rescheduling follows the same rule.
-
The words I hear most: larger, heavier, taller. More weight in the ground and more length through the neck, at the same time. People feel more space in their bodies.
Often it isn't on the table, but it's in the walking afterward, when something moves more easily than it did that morning.
-
No.
One of the clients I'm proudest of was in her sixties and took immaculate care of herself.
Another sits at a desk for nine hours and runs on weekends.
Neither is more suited to this than you.
-
Because Rolfing® gets confused with a lot of other things, and I'd rather find that out on the phone together than when you're already on my table.
Some people come looking for something closer to a deep tissue massage, a chiropractic adjustment, or one session that fixes a single spot. Those are all real and useful. They just aren't what I do.
Thirty minutes costs you nothing, and it saves us both the wrong appointment.
